چکیده

Background Abnormalities in the neurophysiological oscillatory mechanisms generating dominant resting-state eyes closed electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms portray Alzheimer’s disease (AD) continuum, from preclinical to dementia stage. Here, we tested whether these abnormalities may be reproducible by analyzing rsEEG signals acquired bipolar configuration with a montage consisting of only four centro-parietal and parieto-occipital channels (C3-P3, C4-P4, P3-O1, P4-O2) patients mild cognitive impairment (MCI) due AD (ADMCI). Method To evaluate study hypotheses, clinical, neuropsychological, anthropometric, genetic, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), MRI, data 70 Nold 75 ADMCI subjects an international archive were used present study. The subgroups matched for age, gender, education. In all subjects, recordings lasted about 3-5 minutes. recorded sampling frequency 128-512 Hz related antialiasing bandpass between 0.01 60-100 Hz. Electrode included 19 scalp monopolar sensors placed following 10-20 System. investigated at individual delta, theta, alpha bands as well fixed beta (14-30 Hz) gamma (30-40 bands. Result Results confirmed previous evidence compared subjects. Moreover, group, group showed increased delta power density decreased C3-P3, P4-O2 channels. Increased theta was observed C3-P3 channel. Best classification accuracy individuals reached 81% (area under receiver operating characteristic curve) using Alpha2/Theta computed Conclusion current findings provide potential use low-channel portable devices topographic biomarker decline within extensive screening elderly population risk developing AD- or other dementia-related disorders. confirmation this hypothesis would have exciting applications framework telehealth home monitoring global brain functions.

What can cognitive science tell us about scientific revolutions?∗

Kuhn’s Structure of Scientific Revolutions is notable for the readiness with which it drew on the results of cognitive psychology. These naturalistic elements were not well received and Kuhn did not subsequently develop them in his published work. Nonetheless, in a philosophical climate more receptive to naturalism, we are able to give a more positive evaluation of Kuhn’s proposals. Recently, p...

What can proteomics tell us about platelets?

More than 130 years ago, it was recognized that platelets are key mediators of hemostasis. Nowadays, it is established that platelets participate in additional physiological processes and contribute to the genesis and progression of cardiovascular diseases. Recent data indicate that the platelet proteome, defined as the complete set of expressed proteins, comprises >5000 proteins and is highly ...
